Specifies that a fixed name should be used for the hostname for the virtual machine during the customization. This constant field was added in vSphere API 7.0.0.0.

PREFIX

Specifies that a unique name should be generated by concatenating the base string with a number including the network name of the guest.

Virtual machine names are unique across the set of hosts and virtual machines known to the VirtualCenter instance. VirtualCenter tracks the network names of virtual machines as well as hosts. VMware Tools runs in a guest operating system and reports information to VirtualCenter.

VIRTUAL_MACHINE

Specifies that the VirtualCenter should generate a virtual machine name.

The name is generated from a base prefix comprising the virtual machine entity name. A number is appended, if necessary, to make it unique.

Virtual machine names are unique across the set of hosts and virtual machines known to the VirtualCenter instance. VirtualCenter tracks the network names of the virtual machines as well as hosts. VMware Tools runs in a guest operating system and reports information to VirtualCenter, including the network name of the guest.

USER_INPUT_REQUIRED

Indicates that the host name is not specified in advance. The user must provide a valid value when the actual customization spec is applied to a virtual machine. This constant field was added in vSphere API 7.0.0.0.

Retrieve all enumeration constants pre-defined by this enumeration class.

Additional instances might exist at runtime, for example to represent a new constant added to this enumeration class in subsequent version of the API. Such new constant is represented as instance of HostnameGenerator.Type but is not pre-defined.

Returns:

Array of all pre-defined enumeration constants. Never null.

valueOf

public static HostnameGenerator.Type valueOf(java.lang.String name)

Returns the enumeration constant for the specified name.

If the name matches exactly the identifier used to declare an enumeration constant from this enumeration class, the constant in question will be returned.

Otherwise, a new instance of HostnameGenerator.Type will be returned for the specified name, which will not be one of the pre-defined constant instances. Such new instance maps to the HostnameGenerator.Type.Values._UNKNOWN enum constant from the native Java enum.

Returns a native Java enum constant representing this enumeration constant. The result is useful for usual handling of Java enum, for example it can be used in switch statements.
